Bryce Crump is an aspiring engineering student with ASU online.
I am from sunny Tucson, Arizona, where the riverbeds are filled with dirt, and the trees are covered in spikes (cactus). I’m currently a student with ASU’s Universal Learner program, hoping to transfer to the ASU Online Engineering program. I’m currently employed as a Manager Trainer with QuikTrip, a convenience store, and my last two jobs I became a trainer as well; I typically get promoted fast due to a work ethic of excellence and valuing integrity. At any job I’ve had, I’ve valued understanding how things work, and wondered how to make things better.
I’ve always been intrigued by understanding what makes things the way the are and learning about engineering marvels. I studied psychology my last time in college, because I wanted to understand why people are the way they are. But now I realize that being good at math and wanting to understand how things work is the perfect brew to being an engineer. I figure that with an aging population that wants to improve both quality and longevity of life, biomedical engineering is perfect. I specifically want to focus on how biomedical engineering can help alleviate/eliminate cancer cells, as my family has been directly impacted by cancer (my grandma and my mom, specifically). If I can help create a device that helps other people and helps my family, I will be fulfilled.
First and foremost, I must finish this and a few more Universal Learners Courses with straight A’s to get accepted to ASU’s engineering program. With 22 transfer credits from my last go at college, and 12 from this program, I will only have 90+ to go, which can be done in 3 years or less if I play my cards right. I will then have the decision between a post-grad or seeking employment. My current thought process is to seek a post-grad, as spending years doing research will be invaluable. That’s my current 5-7 year plan (depending on if I choose a Master’s or a Doctorate program); I hope to one day unveil either research or new technology that will benefit a large number of people.
